I'm building a small home theater subwoofer and am looking at the LMS 12 in a sealed box powered with a 500w bash amp. Anybody build a sealed box for this driver yet? Also will I get decent performance with 500 watts RMS?

Thanks,

Dave

I have not tried it with a 500w plate amp yet, and if you go sealed, you might want to try a little bass boost. The Q is not low, but its also not high so a little bump down around 30Hz or so might sound good. I might push you towards the Epic if you're stuck on the 500w amp otherwise I would try to pair it with 1k or more for sealed. The other thing to be careful off is the coil is 4 ohms dcr. Most 4 ohm coils are closer to 3 ohms so this is more like 5 ohm coil so you'll have less current draw from the same amp running a lower impedance coil (the good thing is you won't stress any 4 ohm rated amps ever) but its best to over spec the power a little.

I already have a BASH 500. Maybe I'll order a SPA1000 from PE and see if it is worth the extra money. Per PE it is 950 watts RMS into 4 ohms. Also has what looks like a nice parametric EQ. Anybody try the SPA 1000 plate amp?

Kyle,

I looked at the epic driver. Unfortunately parts express doesn't have it in stock for three months.
